How Should A Plug Be Wired

By | August 4, 2022

When it comes to wiring a plug, safety is paramount. This simple electrical connection can become a potentially hazardous fault if done incorrectly. With that in mind, here's how to ensure your plug is wired safely and correctly.

First, make sure the power supply is turned off to the plug before you start to work on it. Then take a look at the back of the plug and identify the three different coloured wires. The brown wire is the live wire, the blue wire is neutral and the green and yellow (or green and bare) is the earth wire. Now, unscrew the face plate and carefully connect each coloured wire to its corresponding terminal.

Once all three wires are connected, securely fix the plug face plate with a screwdriver before plugging in the appliance. Lastly, to check the connections are safe and secure, turn the power back on and use a voltage tester to check the current. If the result shows that the plug is working, then great - you’ve succeeded in a safe plug wiring job!

Safety is key when it comes to a plug wiring job, so don’t cut corners or skip steps. Follow the instructions above to keep yourself and your home protected from electrical fires or hazards. With a little bit of time and concentration, you can have a safely wired plug that will keep your appliances powered up and running.
