Start this project off by gathering the needed supplies, like a voltage meter, screwdriver set with multiple bits, electrical tape, wire cutters, wire nuts, and the 3-way switch.

Turn off the power at the circuit breaker to make sure you don’t get shocked while wiring. Remove the cover from the switch and use the voltage meter to make sure the power is truly off before you proceed. Next, depending on your switch type, you’ll need to remove the screws that hold the switch to the wall and pull it out.
