Most home theater setups include various speakers, including a few that are located in the front of the room. When the speakers are wired up, the wiring is typically color-coded according to its purpose. Each speaker will have two wires: the positive wire and the negative wire. Depending on the setup, the front speaker wires may be Red, White, or both.
The Red Wire is the positive wire. When it is connected to the positive terminal of the speaker, the sound will be projected from the speaker. This will cause the sound to move outwards and be heard by the listener. The White Wire is the negative wire. When connected to the negative terminal of the speaker, the sound will be cancelled out and will not reach the listener.
No matter the color, all speaker wires serve the same purpose, which is to bring sound to the listener. However, if you want your speakers to sound their best, the Red and White wires should be switched correctly. If the Red and White wires are connected the wrong way, the sound will be affected negatively and the sound quality might be distorted. Whether you’re setting up a new system or troubleshooting an existing one, it’s important to remember that the front speaker wire should always be connected correctly according to its color.
