Trailer Light Color Code can be confusing for many drivers. The right color of lights is necessary to make sure a trailer is in compliance with the law and that the driver can stay safe on the road. Knowing the trailer light color code is vital for anyone towing a trailer, whether for recreational or commercial purposes.

The colors used for trailer lights vary by vehicle but there are generally two categories: red for brake lights and amber for marker lights. When it comes to brake lights, the standard trailer light color code requires them to be red and higher than all other lights. Red is the color most associated with stopping and it’s also bright enough to be seen clearly from a distance. Marker lights, usually on the sides of the trailer, are used to provide additional lighting and they must be orange, yellow, or amber.
