Installing A Light Switch From An Outlet

By | August 7, 2022

Installing a light switch from an outlet is a great way to make any room in your home feel a little bit brighter. Whether you’re looking to install a new light switch for aesthetic or practicality, it’s a relatively easy task that can be done in just a few steps with the right equipment and preparation.

First, start with the most important safety precaution of all: check your circuit breaker to make sure the power is off in the area where you’ll be working. Once you’ve confirmed the power is safely switched off, you can begin. Start by removing the coverplate from the wall with a standard screwdriver. Next, carefully unscrew the existing outlet or switch, then disconnect its wires from the wall.

Finally, it’s time to install your new switch. Carefully attach the new light switch to the wall with the included screws, and then reconnect the wires to the device. If you’re using an outlet, connect the black or “hot” wire to the brass-colored terminal, the white or “neutral” wire to the silver-colored one, and the bare ground wire to the green terminal. Make sure all connections are tight by giving them a gentle tug. Finally, replace the cover plate and you’re done!

Installing a light switch from an outlet is a relatively easy process that can easily be completed without professional assistance. With the right safety precautions, tools, and preparation, you can brighten up a room in no time.
