How To Wire In A Stove Plug

When it comes to electrically-powered appliances in the home, a stove plug must be wired correctly for safety and convenience. Knowing how to wire in a stove plug is a skill that DIYers can acquire with a few simple steps.

Start by ensuring that the power is off and remains off during the whole process. When wiring in a stove plug, it is important to use the right wiring sets as they come with specific instructions on how to wire and install them. The cables that connect the circuit to the plug are usually colored black, red and green or yellow. The black cable goes to the live terminal while the red to the neutral, and the green/yellow to the ground. The box should always be grounded and a bare copper wire should run from the ground connection of the box to the wall.

After the cables have been connected to the terminals, all that’s left to do is connect the plug itself by attaching it to the wall outlet. Connect the hot terminals first and finish by connecting the ground terminal. Lastly, secure the cover plate and make sure it fits tightly in place. This will help keep the electric components from being exposed. After the installation is complete, use a non-contact voltage tester to check for short circuits and open circuits. With these steps, you can now safely and effectively wire in a stove plug.
