Wagyu steak is a delicacy some may be tempted to savor only in pricey restaurants around the world, but with just a few key ingredients and a little patience you can master the art of preparing this succulent cut.

The traditional Wagyu steak recipe begins with a quality cut of beef — usually a ribeye — marinated in a sauce made of soy sauce, sugar, garlic, ginger, and sake. The steak is then seared in a cast iron skillet until it's browned on both sides, and topped with a knob of butter. The steak is then covered to let it rest for several minutes — allowing all of that delicious flavor to be absorbed. Before serving, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and top with a dollop of olive oil.

The secret to Wagyu steak perfection lies in the marinade: the longer the steak soaks in the rich, umami-packed blend of ingredients, the more tender and flavorful it will be when cooked.
