How Do You Wire A Plug Properly

By | March 18, 2018

Having a plug that functions properly is important for the safety of your home or business. Properly wiring a plug helps to ensure your electrical appliances are running efficiently and are safe from fire hazards and electric shock. To keep your home and family safe, it’s important to understand the basics of how to wire a plug.

First things first - make sure you switch off the power before beginning to wire the plug. It’s easy to forget this step, but doing so can be incredibly dangerous. Next, insert the wires into the relevant slots on the plug. There should be slots for three coloured wires. The brown wire goes in the slot marked L (live) and the blue in the N (neutral) slot. The green and yellow wire should go in the slot marked E (earth).

Secure the wires in the plug by tightening the screws. Once you’ve securely attached each wire, cover the plug with the casing. You can further check that the plug is properly wired by using a plug tester. This is a small device that will tell you if the plug is correctly wired and safe to use. Then, finally, once your plug is wired correctly you can plug it into the mains socket to let the power flow.

Remember, wiring a plug is easy enough to do yourself, but if you’re not 100% confident then it’s always best to call for professional help. A qualified electrician can assess the plug and make sure it’s safely wired and suitable for use in your home or business. Taking these precautions helps to ensure your safety and comfort.
